Maasai have natural remedies for all sorts of ailments, but one thing medicines cannot cure is AIDS. It is estimated that 6.7% of Kenyans are living with HIV/AIDS (source: CIA World Factbook). Friends of Maasai Community Connection donated laptops and solar panels to power them. Maasai volunteers use the equipment to translate HIV/AIDS awareness literature into the Maasai language of Maa. The literature is then distributed at schools and community gatherings. We also sponsor an adult literacy program where innovative courses on health related topics are taught. Centered around preventative healthcare methods, some as simple as boiling liquids before drinking and digging latrine pits, courses are developed by Maasai students and staff, taught in the Maa language. |
